Field Research/Specialized & Single Subject Field Trips focus on one program topic, covering multiple essential standards
throughout the day. The programs are put together by the Allison Woods OLC team
to cover the topics you would like discussed that day.
Allison Woods Turtle Dogs Program - Allison Woods Turtle Dogs and their trainer will educate students about turtles and their place in the ecosystem. Experience a simulated and actual research involved program showing how the Turtle Dogs help with preservation and conservation of turtles (April-October). Featured on Animal Planet Dogs 101, PBS, UNC-TV, Field and Family Magazine, and other publications, they are truly a one-of a-kind program that students and adults love!
CSI Day Program- Designed for grades 3 and up: Students will become junior CSI agents learning about Fingerprinting, Blood Typing, DNA, and Genes in this fascinating program.
Survival Science Program- Designed for grades 3 and up: Give your students an opportunity to get a closer look at the need for food, water, shelter, fire, and the limits of the human body in wilderness experiences. Students will learn about edible plants, bugs, shelter construction, water purification, poisonous plants, mushrooms identification, and more!
Tree ID Day Program- Designed for grades 3 and up:
Completed in 2 parts.
1. Students will discuss and examine different variations of tree species and their attributes.
2. Analysis of age, internal structure, and factors that affect tree growth
will be explored.
