Wings, Talons, Raptors, OH MY!
Bring Birds of Prey to your school!

GRADE LEVEL ASSEMBLY PROGRAM

This year, the team at Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center has expanded out Birds of Prey-Raptor program!

Thanks to this addition, Ruby, one of our own Bird of Prey Animal Ambassadors can be brought to your school as an assembly program for your students! Ruby, is an Eastern Screech Owl, which is native to North Carolina!

Human beings have always looked to the skies with awe and admiration at birds of prey- hawks, falcons, eagles, and owls. Their powers of flight, incredible eyesight, and mastery of their world have led them to become the subject of literature, art, song and even the symbol of some nations, including ours, for centuries of human history. The chance for a young or any person to be able to see one of these birds up close and have a living, breathing thing grab their attention becomes an opportunity to inspire students young and old in a way that can really make a difference. It opens a door to a larger outdoor world that includes many other things and stories.

Allow us the opportunity to bring Ruby to your school and let her and her handlers educate your students on predator/prey relationships, food chains and food webs, how similar and different all Raptors may be and how they relate to humans, just to name a few topics. Essential standard correlations are listed below.

The program will run an hour with 30 minutes all about Ruby, the rest of the time will discuss other raptors and their places in the environment. Ruby will be in attendance, so students get to see a live Raptor up close! Props and hands on activities will assist students seeking to understand how humans and raptors work together to aid the natural world around them.
